We had another extremely eventful week in District 42. When it wasn’t
raining, we were out knocking on doors and holding O’Toole signs on street corners. We feel
like we are successfully getting our message out to the voters and the voters in District 42
are responding very well.
On Monday morning, we had a "Seniors Coffee" hosted by Sally Decker in
The Villages. Approximately 30 seniors participated in the event and discussed campaign
issues. The senior citizen community represents a large portion of district 42. We plan to
address their needs in Tallahassee by implementing the ideas that we get knocking doors and
hosting roundtables such as this one. We also had several volunteers out walking
neighborhoods in the morning. In the afternoon we visited 40 houses in Leesburg and Clermont
area.
On Tuesday afternoon we returned back to Leesburg and walked over 50
doors. We also had volunteers out placing yard signs in District 42.
Wednesday we had volunteers making phone calls and we attended the Royal
Highlands Candidate Forum. Candidates running for every local office were there with
information tables. We look forward to opportunities like these where we are able to meet and
greet the local residents. I was able to give a short 3 minute statement to the audience.
Thursday morning we had sign wavers out, in Leesburg and the Villages,
during the morning rush hour. We walked a Leesburg neighborhood in the morning, but
unfortunately we were rained out in the afternoon. In between thunderstorms, our sign team
was out in the afternoon, putting up additional signs in Lake County.
On Friday we had volunteers making phone calls. As we approach the early
voting period it is important that we continue to deliver our positive message to area
voters. As a reminder, the early voting period is from August 11th – August 23rd
in Lake, Marion and Sumter Counties. Please visit the Supervisor of Elections site in each
county for additional information:
On Saturday we walked almost 200 homes in the Clermont and Minneola
area. We had several volunteers out walking neighborhoods with us. It was a great day for
walking, and we got done just as the rain started. If you would like to participate in next
week’s walk, please contact Josh Blake at 352-516.
We had some great news last week. We were officially endorsed by the
Florida Chamber of Commerce on Thursday. This statewide pro-business organization represents
over 139,000 businesses and organizations statewide. I feel like my long career with IBM and
my pro-business, pro economy rich message were the main reasons for the endorsement. We are
honored to have an organization like the Florida Chamber of Commerce supporting the campaign!
We look forward to seeing you on the
campaign trail this week.
